Saint Catherine of Siena


Born: 25 March 1347 in Siena
Died: 29 April 1380 in Rome


She join the Third Order of St. Dominic (First Order = friars, Second Order = nuns, Third Order = laypersons) at the age of 16. She was a nurse in the order where she cared for patients suffering with leprosy and advanced cancer. 

In 1970, she was bestowed the title of one Doctor of the Church. Together with St. Francis of Assisi, she one of the two patron saints of Italy.

Prayer

Everlasting God, who so kindled the flame of holy love in the Heart of blessed Catherine of Siena, as she meditated on the passion of your Son our Saviour, that she devoted her life to the poor and the sick, and to the peace and unity of the Church: Grant that we also may share in the mystery of Christ's death, and rejoice in the revelation of His Glory, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
