Pioneers of the church of St. Joseph, Bagan Serai are
Fr. Rene Michel MarieFee (1882 - 1896),
Fr. L. Perrichon (1896 - 1900),
Fr. Duvelle (1900),
Fr. M. Sausseau (1901 - 1905),
and Fr. J. Passail (1906 - 1909).
Fr. Fee had long vision and dreamed of a settlement where Indian Christians could
develop and form one community. In 1882, he managed to get a concession of about
200 acres (later increased to 700) near Bagan Serai. "Soosaypaleyam" (St.
Joseph's Village) started with Father Fee and 10 pioneers. By 1885, there were
more than 30 families and in 1889, the population had grown to 450, with 180
