Why Must we PRAY?

As fuel is needed for a flame, our faith is also fuelled by our prayer to God. Prayer is a act of believe and trust, as in John 20:29  "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.", we don't see God and yet we call on Him.
Each time we pray and pray with all our heart, we are getting closer to Father God, Jesus Christ his Son and the Holy Spirit. (Holy Trinity, One GOD). By this we will receive the knowledge and wisdom to know Him more intimately and love Him as we follow His Commandment to us in John 13:34 "Love one another, as I have loved you.". Prayer and the Word of the Lord is our soul food, ignorance is the fruit of an empty soul (lack of faith and knowledge of the scriptures). When we become ignorant, we will definately fail to love one another.

In prayer we can praise, give thanks and glorify our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ and Mother Mary.
In prayer we communicate with our Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ, Mother Mary, all the angels and saints.

Jesus also prayed to the Father, and Our Lady has also ask us to recite the rosary daily. Therefore, why many of us still do pray at all? If we do not have time for the Lord, then how can we expect the same in return. When in times of trouble many of us only pray as the last resort but in actual fact prayer should be the first thing that come to mind.

In Psalm 34:8 "Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him."; Our Lord is good and everything we receive from him is good, therefore with our heartfelt prayers, respestfullness and obedience to Him , we have much to gain and nothing to lose. All prayers are heared by our Lord and most of them are answered. Those prayers not answered are most probably caused by we are not praying whole heartedly or incorrectly, James 4:3 "When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives,".

Our conscience is a gift from God when he create us,  and it acts a messenger within us telling us what is good (divine) or bad (sinful and works of the evil one). Using the Holy Spirit, God teaches us the right way to things; Romans 8:26 "the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans". God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, whom though the passion has redeem us from our sins and by the resurrection establish the true path to Him; Romans 8:34 "Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.".

It has always been God's plan, for us to know Him, love Him and serve Him.

Hebrews 11:6
6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

"Seven days without prayer, makes one weak."

Philippians 4:6-7
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 6:18
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

1 Timothy 2:1-2
2 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

Matthew 6:5-15 (one of the teaching by Jesus during the Sermon on the Mount)
Prayer
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

9 “This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,

10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’

14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Matthew 26:36
36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”

Luke 5:16
16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.

Luke 21:34-36
34 “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. 35 For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. 36 Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

Genesis 20:17
17 Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelek, his wife and his female slaves so they could have children again,

Genesis 25:21
21 Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was childless. The Lord answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant.

2 Thessalonians 1

1 Paul, Silas and Timothy,
To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:
2 Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thanksgiving and Prayer

3 We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing. 4 Therefore, among God’s churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.

5 All this is evidence that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. 6 God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you 7 and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. 8 He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might 10 on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you.

11 With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. 12 We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus is always filled with an over-abundance of tenderness, mercy, love, and affection for us. Whether at home, in Eucharistic adoration, or wherever you are,  when we pray to Jesus, His loving gaze has already been focused on us. This is why we must always keep Jesus love in our minds and hearts, thus repent for our sins. Therefore, when in prayer trust that Jesus loves us and that he is always pleased with our sincere actions in coming to him in prayer.

Our Lady Queen of Peace, Medjugorje, Bosnia Herzegovina

 Our Lady, the Blessed Virgin Mary has been appearing at Medjugojre, Bosnia Herzegovina since 1981. Our Lady and giving messages to the world through the six visionaries from Medjugorje,  Ivan Dragicevic, Marija Pavlovic, Mirjana Dragicevic, Ivanka Ivankovic, Vicka Ivankovic, and Jakov Colo. They received apparitions of the Our Lady, the Blessed Virgin Mary since June 24, 1981 and Our Lady continues to give messages them during her apparations till today.
Our Lady's mission is one of peace and love, and in her words "I have come to tell the world that God exists. He is the fullness of life, and to enjoy this fullness and peace, you must return to God".
Our Lady, the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Medjugojre apparations, is there known "Our Lady Queen of Peace".

Our Lady has said that each of the six visionaries will receive a total of ten "secrets" from her, with are revelation of events to occur sometime in the future (the events in the secret, some relate to the world, while some to the visionaries themslves and others to Medjugorje itself). The sercets will be revealed within their lifetimes of each visionary, and these will be revealed to the world.
So far, only one of the secrets has been revealed,  in the third secret Our Lady has promised to leave a supernatural, indestructible, beautiful and visible sign on Apparition Hill, where the six visionaries experienced their first apparition. Our Lady said: "This sign will be given for the atheists. You faithful already have signs and you have become the sign for the atheists. You faithful must not wait for the sign before you convert; convert soon. This time is a time of grace for you. You can never thank God enough for His grace. The time is for deepening your faith, and for your conversion. When the sign comes, it will be too late for many."

After they have received all ten "secrets", Our Lady will stop appearing daily. Marija, Vicka and Ivan have received 9 secrets, and Our Lady still appears to them every day, wherever they are, at 5:40pm during daylight savings time and 6:40pm the rest of the year. Mirjana, Jakov and Ivanka have received all 10 secrets, and Our Lady appears to them once per year for rest of their lives.

When Our Lady stops appearing, 3 warnings will be given to the world (events that will take place on earth). The events will occur within Mirjana's lifetime and she will be a witness to them. 10 days before each warning, she will advise the priest she chose for this task (Father Petar Ljubicic), who will pray and fast with Mirjana for 7 days. Then, three days before each warning is to happen, Fr. Petar will announce to the world what, where, and when the warning event will take place. The next two warning event will follow the first one within a short period of time (this interval is a period of grace and conversion). Once the permanent, visible, supernatural, and indestructible sign appears on the on the apparation hill in Medjugorje, there will be little time for conversion. This being the reason, Our Lady is invites us to urgent conversion and reconciliation. The sign apparation hill in Medjugorje will lead to many healings and conversions before the secrets become reality. According to Mirjana, the events predicted by the Blessed Virgin are near and Mirjana proclaims to the world: 'Hurry, be converted; open your hearts to God.'

Mirjana highlighted an apparition she had in 1982, which sheds some light on certain aspects of Church history. In this apparition in which satan appeared to her, and asked Mirjana to renounce Our Lady and to follow him, so that she could be happy in love and in life. He added that following Our Lady would only lead to suffering. Mirjana rejected him, and immediately Our Lady appeared and Satan disappeared. Then Our Lady gave Mirjana the following message in substance,
"Excuse me for this, but you must realize that Satan exists. One day he appeared before the throne of God and asked permission to submit the Church to a period of trial. God gave him permission to try the Church for one century. This century is under the power of the devil; but when the secrets confided to you come to pass, his power will be destroyed. Even now he is beginning to lose his power and has become aggressive. He is destroying marriages, creating divisions among priests and is responsible for obsessions and murder. You must protect yourselves against these things through fasting and prayer, especially community prayer. Carry blessed objects with you. Put them in your house, and restore the use of holy water."

We must realize that Satan is real. He uses us for his own benefits and purposes. His main purpose is destruction. Destruction of love, peace, faith, family, and life. Just as God gave David 5 stones with which to defeat Goliath, Our Lady is also giving us 5 Stones or Weapons that we can use to defeat satan. They are:

  • Daily Prayer (Of the Rosary)
  • Fasting on Wednesdays and Fridays
  • Daily Reading of the Bible
  • Monthly Confession
  • Holy Communion

Prayer of Aspiration

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I give you my heart and my soul.
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, assist me in my last agony.
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, may I die in peace, and in your blessed company.

A PLENARY INDULGENCE is granted at the hour of death when a priest cannot be present to give the Sacraments and the Apostolic Blessing, provided that during life one habitually said some prayers. The conditions "provided that during life one habitually said some prayers" in this case supplies for the three usual conditions for gaining a plenary indulgence.
(cf. Enchir. Indul. 28)

Whoever prays... (St. Alphonsus Liguori)

"Whoever prays is certainly saved. He who does not is certainly damned. All the blessed (except infants) have been saved by prayer. All the damned have been lost through not praying. If they had prayed they would not have been lost. And this is, and will be their greatest torment in hell: to think how easily they might have been saved, just by asking God for His grace, but that now it is too late - their time of prayer is gone."
~  St Alphonsus Liguori, doctor of the Church

Lady of Mount Carmel

Saint Simon Stock was an English hermit that lived in the hollow of a tree, and this how "stock" came about in his name. In the early ages of Carmelites, they were hermits who lived on Mount Carmel, near Nazareth in the Holy Land. When the Carmelites spread to England, they were no longer hermits but became frairs that work and mingle with society.
On 16 July 1251, Our Lady appeared to Saint Simon Stock, the Father of the Carmelite Order and presented him with the Scapular for the Carmelites Order with the promise, saying  "Receive, my beloved son, this scapular of your Order, it is the special sign of my favor, which I have obtained for you and for your children of Mount Carmel. He who dies clothed with this habit shall be preserved from eternal fire. It is the sign of salvation, a shield in time of danger, and a pledge of special peace and protection".

Secondly, wearing the Scapular is the Sabbatine Privilege, as in a promise made by Our Lady to Pope John XXII. In his papal letter, he recounted his vision of Our Lady and stated that the Blessed Virgin had said about those who wear the Brown Scapular. She said  "I, the Mother of Grace, shall descend on the Saturday after their death and whomsoever I shall find in Purgatory, I shall free, so that I may lead them to the holy mountain of life everlasting."

Feast day of Saint Simon Stock is celebrated on 16 May.
Feast day of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is celebrated on 16 July.

Prayer to Our Lady of Mount Carmel

O most beautiful Flower of Mount Carmel, fruitful vine, splendor of Heaven, Blessed Mother of the Son of God, Immaculate Virgin, assist me in this my necessity. O Star of the Sea, help me and show me herein that you are my Mother.

O Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart, to succor me in this my necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. O show me herein that you are my Mother.

O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us that have recourse to thee. (3 times)

Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands. (3 times)

~~~~~~
True devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary consists 3 important ingredients of faith,
~ Veneration
~ Confidence
~ Love
By wearing the Scapular devoutly and continuously, we can tell her that we venerate her, love her and trust in her protection, in every moment of our life.
This scapular is a garment of grace and contains a message from Our Mother of the life in the world to come.
According to the Sacred Congregation of Indulgences wool is necessary and to be used exclusively in the making of scapulars.
A Novena to Saint Therese (9 continuous day starting on Feast Day, October 1)
Begin each day of novena with :
Saint Therese, flower of Carmel, you said you would spend your heaven doing good upon the earth. Your trust in god was complete. Listen to my prayer; bring before God my special intention...
(mention intention here)
Pray for me that I may have something of your confidence in the loving promises of our God. Pray that I may live my life in union with God’s plan for me, and one day see the Face of God who you so ardently loved.
Saint Therese, you kept your word to love God and to trust the world to that loving providence. Pray for us that we may be faithful to our commitment to love. May our lives, like yours, be able to touch the world and bring it to peace.
DAY ONE
Loving God, you blessed St. Therese with a capacity for a great love. Help us to believe in your unconditional love for each of us.
DAY TWO
Loving God, you loved St. Therese’s complete trust in your care. Help us to rely on your providential care for us in each circumstance of our lives.
DAY THREE
Loving God, you graced St. Therese with a capacity to see your hand in the ordinary routine of each day. Help us to be aware of your presence in the everyday events of our lives.
DAY FOUR
Loving God, you taught St. Therese how to find a direct way to you through the “little way” of humility and simplicity. Grant that we may never miss the grace there is in humble service to others in family and neighbourhood.
DAY FIVE
Loving God, you graced St. Therese with the gift of forgiving others even when she felt hurt and betrayed. Help us to be able to forgive others who have wounded us, especially...
DAY SIX
Loving God, St. Therese experienced each day as a gift from You, as a time for loving and through others. May we, too, see each new day as a single moment of saying yes to Your will in our lives.
DAY SEVEN
Loving God, St. Therese offered to You her frailty and powerlessness. Help us to see in our weakness and our diminishments an opportunity for letting Your light and Your strength be all we need.
DAY EIGHT
Loving God, You shepherded St. Therese with a gracious love and made her a tower of strength to people who had lost faith in You. Help us to be unafraid to pray with confidence for the many in our culture who do not believe they can be loved.
DAY NINE
Loving God, St. Therese never doubted that her life had meaning. Help us to understand our possibilities for loving and blessing our children, our elderly parents, our neighbours in need, and for priests throughout the world.
In conclusion to this novena, recite
one Our Father
, one Hail Mary,
one Glory Be.
